Frances Hume, SPHR, GPHR
Frances A. Hume, SPHR, GPHR is Founder/Owner of Hume ‘n Resources, an executive coaching, leadership and strategic human resources consulting firm located for 24 years in Park City, Utah and now in Payson (West Mountain), UT. A human resource veteran of 45 years, she has been able to assist numerous organizations and individuals with creative and strategic business solutions and complicated interpersonal and people-related issues. Prior to starting her consulting business, she was the Executive Vice-President of Strategic Development and Vice-President of Human Resources for Nature’s Way, an international herb and dietary supplement company for four years. For almost 16 years, she was with Flowserve (Valtek) in the process flow industry, leaving as Corporate HR Director. In 2008-09, she served as Relationship Manager for Organizational Leadership and Strategy (OLS) at Brigham Young University, working with Marriott School of Business OLS faculty, Career Center, and graduate and undergraduate OB/HR and Strategy students. Since 1997, she has assisted thousands of HR professionals successfully prepare for and pass their HR certification exams as well as to be better HR professionals. During COVID, Frances created a non-profit, LIFFT, to lift and assist individuals to have a better quality of life.
Frances graduated summa cum laude from the University of Utah, MBA degree. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI), and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SCP), Society for Human Resource Management. As an instructor and speaker, she has developed and taught a variety of leadership, strategy, management, HR, and business courses and seminars, and is/has been a part-time adjunct professor for Utah State University, Brigham Young University, University of Utah, and Salt Lake Community College.
An avid volunteer, Frances has served in numerous leadership roles for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at the national, regional, state, and chapter levels since 1979. For the national HR Certification Institute (HRCI), the credentialing body for the HR profession, she served on the Board of Directors from 2003-2010: was the 2010 Governance Committee Chair and 2009 Chair of the Board of Directors of HRCI; 2008 Vice-Chair, 2006-07 Secretary/Treasurer and 2003-05 as Director at Large. She is a past HRM subject matter expert for the SHRM Learning System. She served as a member of the HRCI Western Region Exam Item Writing Panel, writing questions for the PHR/SPHR certification exams. She served on the SHRM Area VI Board of Directors for seven years. She is a past SHRM Utah State Council Director and a past President of the Human Resource Association of Central Utah (HRACU). She was recognized by HRACU with the Presidential Award for Excellence. In April, 2018, Frances received the Lifetime Achievement Award from SHRM and Utah Business for her 40+ years serving HR professionals and advancing the HR profession.
Frances served six years on Salt Lake City Citizen’s Compensation Advisory Committee and as Chair; seven years on Western Governors University Business Council; 15 years on USU HR Council and BYU OB/HR Council. She was appointed by the Governor of Utah to serve on the Utah State Executive and Judicial Compensation Committee for eight years. One of her volunteer highlights was serving with her husband at the Ski Jump Venue during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Park City, Utah. She enjoys snowmobiling, ATVing, photography, learning new things, teaching, traveling, and RVing with her husband, Gary, and spoiling their four children, 16 grandchildren, and great-grandson.
